With every year that passes we not only see ourselves change in our personal lives but we see our photography evolve as well. It’s been a great experience really. Reflecting back on how we started and what we started photographing, it seems as though we were different people years ago. For those who have been following our work, you can see how we have grown. No longer are the days of commercial photography or live concert events. Instead, we have focused on one specific genre of photography–weddings. It’s been quite an adventure and with every wedding it allows us an opportunity to learn and validate that our decision to commit to this genre was the right decision. However, we’ve discovered that it’s not just being in the moment of a wedding that has us coming back for more. In fact, it’s the people. Plain and simple.
We are blessed to be able to meet extraordinary people and learn about their lives and their love. We spend time with these people, we break bread with them, have drinks with them, laugh with them, share moments with them. We immerse ourselves in their lives so that at the end of the day, at the end of the wedding, we have documented a friend’s wedding. It’s about the connection. Not the work, not the commission. It’s about people.
Tom and Amber (or “Ambugh” as Tom pronounces it with his cool Australian accent) contacted us after Amber’s best friend/sister-in-law, Kelly referred us. (Thanks, Kelly!) Despite the time difference with them being on the East Coast and us being in the West, our first Skype call lasted for hours. We knew right away that we wanted to be the ones to document their wedding. We spent a few hours with them when they flew out here for their site visit at the Calistoga Ranch and we were grateful that they solicited suggestions from us about optimum lighting, locations at the venue, and timelines for the wedding day.
It was an amazing experience being able to work with an absolutely amazing couple. They trusted us with our input and together with a wonderful team of vendors that they chose for their wedding, the collaborate effort resulted in an unforgettable day. We were able to not only capture some amazing images but we were able to spend time with beautiful people. At the end of the day, to us, that’s all that really matters.
